Hamman Reunion Scottsboro July 2022

We held a successful Phillip Hamman Reunion July 28 through 31, 2022 in Scottsboro, AL. On Thursday, July 28 we did a service project at the DeKalb Co. Public Library in Ft. Payne, AL. The library has a special Phillip Hamman Collection with materials that have been donated over the years. We went through the collection and organized much of the material. On Friday, July 29 we visited Valley Head Cemetery where headstones for Phillip and Christina Hamman are located. We also visited the Winston Mansion, (a lovely home built before the Civil War) previously owned by a Hamman family member, now currently a bed and breakfast. We also stopped at the site of the “Cherokee Council Tree” also in Valley Head.

On Saturday morning July 30, we dedicated the recently replaced Phillip Hamman historical roadside marker in Fackler, AL. We visited the area where Phillip and Christina owned land, and the area where they were originally buried. Saturday afternoon Jim Rose gave a slide show presentation about “Phillip Hamman Land”, reviewing the places Phillip lived during his lifetime (including Greenbrier Co. VA, Madison and Montgomery Counties KY and Jackson Co. AL). Another presentation was given, “Phillip Hamman and the Indians” reviewing multiple interaction Hamman had with the Indians. Gary Hamman gave a presentation recognizing previous leaders in the Hamman Family organization.

We ended the evening with our traditional Banquet and auction. We were able to raise enough through the auction and through donations to pay the expenses for the reunion and pay the expenses of historical marker. Many thanks to those who made contributions.
